Dedicated to both Wendy Palmer (Tiphani’s mother and founder of Leadership Embodiment) and Tiphani’s daughter, Rain, this book offers a gentle way to guide small children in handling their big emotions.
The story shared in this book is a real-life experience that provided Tiphani’s daughter a process to help her regulate her emotional limbic system. As you read the story, you can ask the child you are reading to if they want to try the magic dragon breath with you. What a gift you can give—a life-long skill to help manage and navigate the emotional rollercoaster that is being human.
Here is what we are doing with each of the magic dragon breath steps!
Step 1: Breath – A long exhale helps activate our calming nervous system, which tells the body we are not under threat, that we can relax, that we are OK.
Step 2: Moving from tight to expanded – When we are stressed, we tighten our muscles and close our posture. By expanding and opening, we change our body and our brain to a more receptive and creative state.
Step 3: Shift of focus – When we move our thoughts to a positive reference experience, we change our system’s orientation. We shift from stress to a more creative perspective.
Step 4: In service to others – Shifting our focus away from the “me” activates a natural instinct of caring and the desire to be of service to others.
Featuring a wise dragon and a young silver arctic fox, this book is a lovely gift for young children aged three to eight. It is filled with playful illustrations and compassionate dialogue that inspire the imagination.
